Each Making Books with Pockets title covers three complete themes. Several topics are covered for each theme. The themes covered in this title are:

1. One of a Kind: This theme is an "all about me" theme. It is the most creative "about me" resource I have ever seen. Your child will make a mini-shape book dressed like himself, measure all sorts of parts of his body, make a mini-book on his immediate family, do projects dealing with his ancestors, do a project about his friends, make an adorable pull-out book about his pet,design a trading card of himself, and more. This would be a great project to do once a year.
2. Ocean Habitats: This one is sooo well done! Make one pocket each on the tide pool, the Kelp forest, the deep sea, and the open sea, each with several mini-books, art projects, creative writing, math projects, and more. Your child will even decorate the cover of the theme book with little origami fish!!! Since there are pockets for several different zones of the ocean, it would be very easy to expand this study by adding more information about the various zones and the creatures who live there.
3.Insect Riddles: Make projects about attributes of insects, bees, ladybugs, dragonflies, and more. A great launching point for a study of instects - or you could add these projects to your nature notebook as you encounter these insects.

This book is packed full of reproducibles like writing patterns, templates and instructions for art and craft projects, clip art, shaped book forms, mini books, literature lists, etc. It is recommended for grades 1-3 but is easily adaptable for younger or older children, especially when the material is being used to enhance a more comprehensive study of the given topic. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
