Each Making Books with Pockets title covers three complete themes. Several topics are covered for each theme. The themes covered in this title are:
1. The First Thanksgiving: Make a Mayflower facts minibook, Mayflower model, trunk shape book, The Pilgrim's First Year minibook, how to plant corn poster, harvest place mat, and a perky turkey. 2. Native Americans: do art and writing projects to learn about Native Americans of the Woodlands, Plains, Southwest, and Northwest and Far North; make a corn husk mask, a parfleche, a kachina doll, and a Chilkat blanket.
3. The Food Pyramid: do projects for each food group (grains, fruits & vegetables, meats, dairy, fats/oils/sweets). Projects include information pages, bread shape book, fruit & vegetable collage, reading food labels, building a healthy meal, and more.
This book is packed full of reproducibles like writing patterns, templates and instructions for art and craft projects, clip art, shaped book forms, mini books, literature lists, etc. It is recommended for grades 1-3 but is easily adaptable for younger or older children, especially when the material is being used to enhance a more comprehensive study of the given topic.
