Sum Swamp Game

If you have read Teaching the Trivium, then you know that we do not really do any formal or "workbook" math during the young years. Instead, we use a lot of real life and great games. Sum Swamp is our very favorite math game. All of our children have learned their addition and subtraction facts just from playing this game. It is a basic board game that involves moving swamp animals (snake, turtle, etc.) around a board decorated with a swamp motif. The game includes 2 regular numeral dice and a special die with plus and minus signs on it. Players roll all three dice to create math problems - the answers are the number of spaces they can move. We keep about 20 small manipulatives in the box for children who do not know their math facts. Several interesting twists make this game as fun for my 10 year old as it is for my 3 year old. Highly recommended!
